The Inspiration Behind Easy Math: A Reverse Harem Sexsomnia Romance Book
Writing a book can be a journey of self-expression, and for me, it was an exploration of my love for science fiction, erotica, and personal experience. Easy Math, a reverse harem romance book, is a product of these passions and influences. But more importantly, it’s a story born from real-life inspiration. In this post, I’ll share with you the journey that led to the creation of Easy Math and how I brought together elements of fantasy, science fiction, and personal experiences to create something that I hope resonates with readers.
The Spark of Inspiration
I have been a long-time lover of science fiction and erotica, so when I finally decided to write a book, it wasn’t just about choosing a genre or a theme—it was about combining the things that excited me the most. Someone once told me to write what I know, so I decided to do just that. I wanted to create a world where science fiction meets romance, where strange and adventurous things happen, but with a deeply personal twist.
It was a mix of fantasy and reality that shaped Easy Math. I wanted to write about something unexpected, something that would hook readers from the very beginning. A reverse harem romance book seemed like the perfect vehicle for this. After all, why not explore relationships in a way that defies convention, while also incorporating elements of space travel, thrilling adventures, and yes—steamy romance?
Izzy Song: A Pilot with a Dangerous Secret
At the heart of Easy Math is Izzy Song, a young pilot fresh out of flight school. She’s eager, determined, and ready to take on the challenges of deep space exploration. However, fate has other plans for her. Due to a shortage of available pilots, Izzy is immediately assigned to her first crew—a crew of four male counterparts. Things take an unexpected turn during her first sleep cycle, though. Her crewmates discover her dangerous secret: she is a chronic sleepwalker, and her sleepwalking could put their entire mission at risk.
In the book, Izzy’s sleepwalking condition isn’t just a quirky plot device—it’s a central theme. Having been a sleepwalker since childhood myself, I drew heavily from my own experiences to portray what it’s like to live with this condition. The terror of waking up in places you don’t remember, the confusion of not knowing how you got there—these are all feelings I’ve experienced. Writing about Izzy’s condition allowed me to channel these emotions into the narrative and bring a level of authenticity to the story.
A Surprising Twist: Sexsomnia
As the plot unfolds, it becomes clear that Izzy’s sleepwalking isn’t her only issue. She also suffers from sexsomnia, a condition in which a person engages in sexual acts while asleep. This discovery, while shocking to her crewmates, turns out to be an essential part of the plot. They quickly realize that as long as Izzy is sexually satisfied, she doesn’t sleepwalk. This leads to the crew taking turns acting as her sleep babysitters, and it’s here that the true dynamics of the reverse harem romance book come into play.
The idea of sexsomnia is, admittedly, a leap from my own experiences. While I’ve never had the condition, I found it an interesting way to explore Izzy’s relationship with her crew. Her unique condition creates a situation where intimacy and connection are essential to keeping her—and the crew—safe. What begins as a necessity for survival slowly evolves into something much more meaningful as Izzy grows closer to her crewmates.
The Crew: Love, Tension, and Chemistry
One of the most exciting parts of writing Easy Math was developing the relationships between Izzy and her four crew members. Each of the men brings something different to the table, and their interactions with Izzy evolve as the story progresses. These men aren’t just there to fulfill a fantasy—they each have their own personality, struggles, and desires.
Keir, the golden retriever-like engineer who is closest to Izzy’s age, is immediately smitten with her. His playful and loving nature makes him a natural fit to connect with Izzy on an emotional level. He is her support system and someone who sees her for who she really is.
Then there’s Jace, the grumpy and chaotic bisexual Gunnery Sergeant. He’s drawn to Izzy despite his disdain for most people. His complex character brings a layer of tension to the dynamic, but it also makes their relationship a slow burn—something that keeps readers engaged.
Captain Wilm, the stoic and by-the-book leader, tries his best to maintain professionalism, but he can’t fight the growing feelings he has for his teenage pilot. His internal struggle adds a fascinating layer of complexity to their relationship, as he tries to balance duty and desire.
Finally, there’s Soren, the know-it-all Executive Officer who once claimed he was only attracted to men. His attraction to Izzy challenges his self-image, and the tension between him and Izzy is palpable. Watching their relationship unfold was one of the most enjoyable parts of writing this reverse harem romance book.
The Real-Life Inspiration
The reason I chose to write about sleepwalking and sexsomnia in Easy Math stems from my own experiences with sleepwalking. As a child and into my adulthood, I often wake up in strange places, unsure of how I got there. It’s an unnerving feeling, one that I wanted to translate into Izzy’s character. She, too, experiences this terror and confusion, which makes her journey throughout the book so compelling.
While I don’t have sexsomnia myself, I found it an intriguing concept to explore. It added an interesting and unexpected twist to the plot. Izzy’s condition wasn’t just a quirky detail—it became the driving force behind the relationships she formed with her crew. Her need for sexual satisfaction to avoid sleepwalking created a complex dynamic that allowed for emotional growth and deepening connections. The relationships between Izzy and her crew members evolved into something far beyond what they initially expected, and that’s one of the reasons I believe Easy Math resonates with readers.
A Journey Worth Taking
Writing Easy Math was a deeply personal experience for me. It was a way for me to explore themes of love, intimacy, and vulnerability, while also indulging in my love for science fiction and erotica. The characters I created are people I grew attached to, and I hope readers will feel the same way. The blend of adventure, romance, and personal experience created something I’m incredibly proud of.
